iPhone 5S, 5C Price Drop: Sale and Discounts Follow After iPhone 6 Release
Following the announcement of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus during the Apple Keynote Conference Launch last September 9, Redington, a known supplier of tech gadgets, confirmed that the new batches of iPhone 5s will be marked down, pending confirmation with Apple Inc.
In a statement, Redington said, "Just to clarify that new iPhone 5s (pictures) shipment with new MRP label has been delayed (to end of Oct ' 14) and the new price will be applicable when this stock is received from Apple," wrote NDTV Gadgets. The report added that iPhone 5s will not be sold for a lower price until after the release of iPhone 6 in India on October 17.
Earlier, the price of iPhone 5s 16GB was reduced to Rs. 44,500 ($731) from an introductory price of Rs. 53,500 ($879). Also, the 32GB variant is repriced to Rs. 49,500 ($813) from Rs. 62,500 ($1027) .Once the price cut takes effect, consumers could be seeing at least a Rs. 35,000 ($575) to Rs. 40,000 ($657) retail price for iPhone 5s. The 8GB edition is also rumored to be sold at a relatively lower cost, though BGR did not mention specifics yet.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus roll out on sale this Friday in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and United Kingdom. The new Apple smartphones are available for pre-order via major telecom companies starting at US$ 199 for the 4.7 inch iPhone 6 and US$ 299 for the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus.
Prices are different for the 64GB and 128GB variants which are pegged at US$ 399 to US$ 499 respectively locked in two-year contracts. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are sold in Gold, Silver, and Gray editions starting at US$ 649 without contract. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon are exclusive carriers of iPhone 6 plans.
