iPhone 6 Release Date, Rumors, Features: New Apple Smartphone Expected to Have Larger, Curved Display and "Refocus" Mode

Though the iPhone 6 is scheduled for a mid to late 2014 release date, there are a lot of rumors, news and speculation regarding some of the expected key features for Apple's next flagship smartphone.

While no photos of the iPhone 6 have surfaced online, it's safe to assume there will be a couple design updates. Apple has always maintained a 4-inch display is the ideal compromise between portability and functionality. However, the tech giant might be changing its tune after the success of significantly larger phones like the Galaxy S4 and Note series.

Some sources claim the Cupertino-based company is experimenting with screens ranging from 4.8 and 6 inches [Wall Street Journal].

In November, an industry insider told Bloomberg that Apple was also working on curved displays similar to the Galaxy Round and LG G Flex. The source also claimed the screens would be able to distinguish pressure levels for more nuanced controls.

Per usual the processor gets an upgrade. Shortly after the iPhone 5S release, Korean Economic Daily reported Apple was switching from Samsung to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company as its primary chip supplier. Look for the rumored A8 chip to be an improvement on their industry leading 640bit A7 chip.

The camera is also another feature that usually gets a huge improvement, especially on the non "S" models. Though specs are still a mystery, the iPhone 6's camera is rumored to feature Lytro-style refocusing software, similar to the Nokia Lumia 1520. Essentially the feature would allow users to decide, after a photo is taken, whether to focus the foreground or background. The feature would also allow users to correct photos out of focus.

Price is still uncertain. Apple could have a significant advantage if they drop the 16GB model and position the 32GB version as their minimum storage option.
