iPhone 7 Plus Camera Specs: New iOS 10.1 Public Beta Update Advances Portrait Mode
The news about the iOS 10.1 public beta will augur well for the iPhone 7 Plus as it added on the Portrait Mode in its camera shots.
According to MacRumors, the Portrait Mode was introduced back on Sept. 7 during the launch of the iPhone 7 Plus. What the new mode does is to imitate the depth-of-field capabilities of the DLSR. You might see this when you remember a photo of a subject being highlighted by a blurred background.
The two camera lens on the iPhone 7 plus allow for this cute effect. The news reports claimed that Apple is adopting machine-learning technology to recognize what the user wants to do, and automatically blur the background in what is dubbed the "bokeh" technique.
Apart from the depth-of-field, Forbes said in a news article that the iPhone 7 Plus camera doesn't really take better photos compared to cheaper models like the LGV20 and the Huawei P9 Plus. In fact, there are even instances when the latter phones trumped Apple's flagship in some conditions.
This PitaPixel article also said that people should not expect the news about the improved iPhone Plus 7 camera to be mind-blowing. Despite the new additions, they should temper their expectations with what the technical capabilities can only do: and that means not break the laws of physics.
For the positives, the DNG images taken from the iPhone Plus 7 camera are much more rich and detailed compared to the JPG, which is good news for those who don't want a lot of noise in the images.
