iPhone 8 Release Date News, Rumors: A Bigger iPhone 4 Without Lightning Port?
The iPhone 8 news and rumors have intensified as 2016 comes to a close since people anticipate that it's going to be a very special mobile phone indeed considering that next year would be the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.
One of the prevailing themes in the news reports and rumors is that the iPhone 8 would be all-glass, which basically borrowed the design from the Apple 4 and Apple 4S. Of course, that phone was only 3.5 inches compared to the iPhone 7's 5.5-inch display with about 68% screen to body ratio.
There are also talks about two different bodies for the lower-end and high-end models: one with aluminum casing and another with stainless steel like the jet black iPhone 7, which was purchased by more than 3 in 10 iPhone 7 owners.
Other news and rumors alleged that the iPhone 8 would no longer have the lightning port. Forbes has reported that Apple was granted a patent which indicates the use of an optical signal to connect the device to other devices. With this, there might also be no need to physically charge your smart phone.
"These openings can be sized such that they are not visible or not easily visible with the naked human eye," the patent application said.
Although no details have come out of the decision to ditch the lightning port for the iPhone 8, there might be some basis to these news and rumors considering Apple's goal of fully going wireless. This started with its decision to take out the audio jack in the iPhone 7.
