Jennifer Hudson Testifies 'Look What God Can Do' as She Receives Humanitarian Award at People's Choice Awards 2014
Jennifer Hudson has been given a humanitarian award at the People's Choice Awards 2014, and she responded to the recognition by immediately attributing the success to God by saying, "Look what God can do."
"I have to start off saying the same thing I said when I won my Oscar -- look what God can do!" Hudson, 32, told the audience at the Peoples Choice awards Wednesday night.
The award show is voted on by the general public and produced by The Bible series producer Mark Burnett. Hudson's foundation proved to be a fan favorite as she was voted by the people for the most favored humanitarian effort.
"This all started, like I said, back home in our church where we grew up. My mother always taught us that without family you have nothing, and whether you know it or not we all are family, and what happens to the other happens to us, so it's very important to make a difference," Hudson declared in her acceptance speech.
The soulful singer was brought to tears while discussing the foundation she began following the murders of her mother, brother and nephew in October 2008.
Hudson's former brother in law, William Balfour, was charged with the murder of the singer's mother, brother and nephew. A Chicago jury found him guilty of three accounts of murder and he was sentenced to life in prison.
The Julian D. King Gift Foundation was established In 2008, by Jennifer Hudson and her sister Julia, in loving memory of Jennifer's nephew and Julia's son, Julian King.
The Foundation acts as a stimulus for change in children's health, education and welfare and exists to provide stability, support and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds so that they will become productive, confident and happy adults, the foundation's website has explained.
Speaking at the CBS awards show, Hudson boldly looked into the audience and said, "It's one thing to be a celebrity and have power ... but it means nothing if we're not helping someone else. It also feels good to see positivity acknowledged."
