Jeremy Lin's 'Linsanity' Documentary to Debut in China as Trade Rumors Surround the Star Point Guard
"Linsanity," a film based on the life of NBA point guard Jeremy Lin, will finally debut in China after the film was acquired by Metan Development. Metan Officials believe that the Christian Houston Rockets player's story is relevant to numerous people in the planet's most populous nation.
"Jeremy Lin's story is one that resonates and is relatable to everyone in China - old and young, male and female," said Gordon Chu, VP of business development at Metan according to Variety.com.
"Of course, being the first American-born NBA player of either Chinese or Taiwan descent to achieve such incredible success in the NBA will be of interest to his fans in China, as well as the incredible journey he took to reach his goals. We're delighted to bring 'Linsanity' to audiences in Mainland China," said Chu, according to The Hollywood Reporter report.
The documentary movie tells the true story of the Houston Rockets player who burst onto the basketball scene in February 2012 as a member of the New York Knicks. Lin had a streak of all-star caliber performances when he finally became an NBA starter that inspired the team's play and created a buzz around New york City. The film made its U.S. debut in October 2013. The Linsanity film shadows Lin's success as the first ever Asian-American to play in the NBA. In addition, the film also shows the significance of his Christian faith throughout his life.
Metan will now have the theatrical, television, and online rights for the film in China, and has previously begun airing it online.
Director Evan Jackson Leong spoke to The Christian Post and said the documentary film began when Lin was still going to Harvard as a student athlete, prior to his NBA debut.
"It's a huge component of who he is and how he lives, and so we had to make sure that that's part of it in this film," said Leong regarding Lin's Christian faith. "We obviously wanted to explore other things of who he is - Asian-American, Ivy League, Bay Area, underdog. But if you didn't include all those, or you took one of those out, then you're not really exploring who he is as a person. His faith is really important to who he is."
As of late, Lin trade rumors are heating up as the Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors might be involved in a trade deadline deal that includes NBA point guards Jeremy Lin and Kyle Lowry and Francisco Garcia, according to numerous sources.
With the future Feb. 20 NBA trade deadline drawing close, these two playoff-aspiring franchises are projected to rule the trade rumors for the following three weeks as they look to enhance their current rosters.
