'Jessica Jones' Season 2 Release Date: Fans Will Not Be Able To See Jessica Jones' Return?
While fans are already excited to see the return of Jessica Jones, it looks like it won't be until the big crossover mini-series "The Defenders" that they'll get to see her again. That is, if she won't make a surprise cameo appearance on "Luke Cage" or "Iron Fist."
In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg spoke about handing off Jessica Jones to "Defenders" showrunners Marco Ramirez and Dough Petrie.
"This wouldn't work if anyone other than them was in charge. The whole thing has been incredibly collaborative. They've also been really respectful to all the other showrunners who have invented these characters and have grown attached to these characters," said Rosenberg.
"They invited commentary, they invited ideas, they enjoy collaboration. That's the only way this works. It doesn't work if they keep it all to themselves and are possessive."
Talking about launching Luke Cage on "Jessica Jones," the showrunner revealed that they had been preparing to pass him on to the next show since the beginning.
"From the beginning, we were like teachers in an elementary school, getting him ready to pass him on to the next show and making sure we've done all we can to set him up as best as we can," she said.
As for the second season of "Jessica Jones," Rosenberg said she would keep mum until after "The Defenders." However, she said fans should expect to see something new when the sardonic female superhero returns.
"The Defenders" is set to premiere in 2017, while "Jessica Jones" is expected to return in 2018.
