Joni Eareckson Tada Stays Positive Despite 'Alone Yet Not Alone's' Revoked Oscar Nomination, 'In No Way Detracts From Either the Song's Beauty or its Message'
Well-known Christian quadriplegic evangelist Joni Eareckson Tada sang the theme song to the film "Alone Yet Not Alone," and recently learned of the Oscar's decision to rescind the nomination for the Christian film.
"While I can only imagine the disappointment of music writer Bruce Broughton and lyricist Dennis Spiegel in the rescinding of their Oscar nomination, it in no way detracts from either the song's beauty or its message," said Tada in a press release.
Tada is a born again Christian who has her own faith based television show called Joni and Friends.
"I was grateful for the attention the nomination brought to this worthy song and the inspirational film behind it, as well as to the ongoing work of Joni and Friends to people affected by disabilities. The decision by the Academy to rescind the nomination may well bring even further attention, and I only hope it helps to further extend the message and impact of the song" said Tada in report.
According to the press release, Tada also mentioned she has no understanding into how the entertainment industry works, so she won't guess about the withdrawing of the nomination.
"However, I was honored to be invited to sing the song and it will always be a treasured experience," said Tada in a press release.
Following the Academy's verdict, Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of the pro-family Movieguide and chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, revealed to LifeSite News that the choice to withdraw Alone Yet Not Alone's nomination was "duplicitous" and amounted to "hazing," stating he believes that the writers of the theme song were being penalized.
As a result, Dr. Baehr has requested Tada to sing at the twenty-second annual Movieguide Award event held on February 7. It will air on Reelz TV on March 1 at 2 p.m. then it will re-air on March 2 at 2 p.m.
