The Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts will get the NFL 2014 Wild Card Playoff games underway on Saturday in what should be a fantastic match up. This will be the Chiefs' first playoff game in four years and they will be up against it, facing a strong Colts team.
Indianapolis will be the slight favorites to win this game at the Lucas Oil Stadium, although a lot will depend on whether quarterback Andrew Luck can cope up the pressure of expectation, and many will be looking to see whether he can win in the postseason.
Today's first Wild Card game between the Chiefs and the Colts will start at 4.35 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on the NBC network. The game will also be available to watch online through free NBC live stream, and a link is provided below.
The Chiefs' third quarter frailties have been highlighted by analysts over the past week. Despite having a strong team, they have struggled to adjust to things when opposition teams change things up at half time.
Across the five losses the Chiefs suffered in the regular season they allowed an average of nine points in the third quarter. Across the team's 11 wins, in comparison, the Chiefs allowed just above 4 points on average in the third quarter.
That may not sound like much, but they have won three games by a touchdown or less, and so those 5 extra points on losses could be the difference between progressing in the postseason or going home early.
The Colts meanwhile, will be looking at their regular season results, and should be able to see that in games where they have managed to score more than 20 points, they lost just once. They will be looking to get over that magic mark in today's game, and if they can manage it they should have a good chance of winning.
The Chiefs though have a stingy defense, and they have let through 21-plus points only six times this season.
The Colts come into this game with a strong home record, and through the regular season they went 6-2 at Lucas Oil Stadium, defeating the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks in the process. That will give them good reason to be optimistic for today's game.
However, the Chiefs had an identical 6-2 record on the road through the regular season, and so they also will feel comfortable playing away from home today and still having a better than average chance at coming away with a win.
Something will have to give way in today's game, and it looks like it will be an intriguing match up.
