Kanye West Movie News: American Psycho Author Bret Easton Ellis Originally Did Not Want to Work on Film
Bret Easton Ellis, the writer of American Psycho and screenwriter of the recent Lindsay Lohan movie "The Canyons," has announced that although he has penned a film script for rapper Kanye West, he originally did not want to work on the project.
Last year Kanye remade a scene from the film adaptation of American Psycho to promote his "Yeezus" album, which led to the rapper met with Ellis in order for the writer create a film for him.
"He came and asked me to write the film," said Ellis to VICE Media regarding West's film pitch adding. "I didn't want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He'd given me an advance copy, and I thought, regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this...That was seven or eight months ago. We'll see what happens."
Ellis explains to why decided to make a film with West.
"I really like him as a person," said Ellis to Vice Media adding. "I know he comes off in this performance-art way in the press, but if you're just alone with him in a room talking for three hours, it's kind of mind-blowing." When discussing narcissism in the entertainment industry, Ellis says: "We all are [narcissists]. We're all here. And he's one of the few people who will admit it, and I like him for that and I wish more people would follow suit."
This is not the first time the duo worked together. Last year, the pair worked on an online video, that satirized the novel and film. "Keeping Up With the Kardashians." Star Scott Disick played the role of disturbed Wall Streeter Patrick Bateman.
"I wrote it. Kanye came to me and asked me to write it so I wrote the promo," said Ellis to MTV News last July adding. "I just got a text one day ... it said, 'It's Kanye, do you have time to rap?' And then suddenly my phone rang and someone said, 'Kanye got your number and he wants you to write this promo for Yeezus,' And so we went back and forth on it and he wanted it done, like, that day. So I wrote it very quickly and they shot it two or three days later."
