'Longmire' Season 6 Release Date On Netflix, Cast News: 10-Episode Six Season Premieres Next Year?

Netflix has renewed "Longmire" for another season, but it is going to be the last for the series.

The contemporary crime thriller is set to return for its 10-episode sixth season in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand in 2017, and will star Robert Taylor and Katee Sackhoff.

To everyone's surprise, the series was cancelled by A&E days following the season 3 finale, which left a major cliffhanger. Since the decision of the network angered fans, they decided to launch a massive save-the-show campaign in hopes of having the show renewed.

Since its debut, "Longmire" has been one of the most watched original series in the history of A&E with almost six million viewers each episode, so A&E's decision to cancel it came as a surprise to everyone. Fortunately in 2014, Netflix picked up the series due to insistent public demand.

With the renewal of the series, executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny will have the chance to answer the questions left by the major cliffhanger in the previous season.

"We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories," said the executive producers.

"Most importantly, we're committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their longtime loyalty," added the trio.

Set in Big Sky country, "Longmire" is produced by the Shephard/ Robin Company in association with Warner Horizon Television. It stars Robert Taylor as Walt Longmire, a charismatic sheriff of Absaroka County.
