Luis Collazo vs Victor Ortiz: Collazo Praises God Through His Tears after KO; 'I Cry Anytime When it Comes to My Lord and Savior'
Luis Collazo credits his big win at the Barclays Center Thursday night to God, and did so boldly in front of millions watching over television and at the arena in the second round due to his knock out punch.
Collazo was fighting in his hometown of Brooklyn. He described to an interviewer Thursday night that upon arriving at the arena, he felt "electricity come in" him and that assured him "The Spirit" was with him.
Collazo Knocked out Victor Ortiz at the end of the second round in an early and shocking end to their welterweight fight at Barclays Center.
When the boxer was asked if he ever thought it could happen as big as it did last night the champ answered, "You know, all glory to God. To me, God was with me today and that's how it ended the way it ended."
As Collazo landed the final punch that kept his opponent Ortiz on the ground, the referee counted to ten and signaled the fight was over. Before doing anything else, Collazo dropped to his knees on the canvas and openly prayed. Brought to tears, he then stood up and his team rushed him with hugs and praise. Seemly still stunned, he shouted triumphantly, "God is good, God is good!"
During a post victory interview Collazo said once Ortiz went down he knew he would not get up and while attributing his victory to God, he added that he knew God was with him. That thought alone brought him to tears. "They say a man's not suppose to cry, but you know what, I cry anytime when it comes to my Lord and Savior."
Collazo 32, a boxer in the welterweight division, has a record of 35 wins 5 loses. He is a former WBA welterweight champion (18 KOs).
He is nicknamed "The People's Champ" for being from the Williamsburg section of the Brooklyn.
