Mark Wahlberg to Produce 'Highway to Heaven' Remake on A&E Network
The A&E Network is the place to watch the hit reality series Duck Dynasty, and now the network is attempting to recreate the well-liked 1980s television show, "Highway to Heaven" with Mark Wahlberg as an executive producer.
The modern remake of the show that originally starred the late Michael Landon is being written by former "Hell on Wheels" executive producer John Wirth, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Alongside Wirth, Wahlberg of Closest to the Hole Productions, Noreen Halpern of Halfire-Core Entertainment, Stephen Levinson of Leverage Entertainment, and Wayne Lepoff of the Landon estate, are the reboot's executive producers.
Wahlberg is also working on a reality series based on his family's restaurant chain, Wahlburger, in addtion to starring in a new film called Lone Survivor.
The original Highway to Heaven aired for five seasons with 111 episodes on NBC from 1984 to 1989.
The show starred Landon in the lead role as Jonathan Smith, an angel sent down to earth, and his human friend Mark Gordon (Victor French). The series centered on missions given to Jonathan and Mark by God to lend a hand to multiple distressed souls to overcome their troubles.
Jonathan and Mark would always defend one another in the series despite their diverse personalities.
On the other hand, when Jonathan performed enough good deeds to receive his angel wings to return back to heaven, Mark would sometimes delay Jonathan's assignment so that he would not lose his trusty comrade.
A&E has not yet made an official announcement regarding how long it would take to make the Highway to Heaven reboot.
