Marvel Games Created by Activision and Capcom Have Been Removed From Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam After Licenses Expire
Several Activision and Capcom games based on Marvel characters have been removed from Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Steam after the termination of their licensing deals.
"These games - and their corresponding DLC - will no longer be available on the Xbox Games Store or the PlayStation Network after New Year's Eve, so if you've been dragging your heels to snag a digital copy, now's the time to pick up your controller and play at a great price," a Facebook posting for Marvel Games read.
It is now official, all downloadable Marvel Games produced by Capcom and Activision are no longer available to be purchased online.
"For those asking about it: Marvel Activision titles are no longer available for digital download. http://ow.ly/sbS0q Hence the sale!" wrote the Activision's community manager Dan Amrich on Twitter yesterday.
As a result, all X-Men and Spider-Man games were removed from online from Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and Steam.
In addition, the critically acclaimed Marvel vs. Capcom series were also casualties of the licensing contracts expiration.
"Yes. Capcom also pulled the MvC games, so it's not just Activision. Time for Marvel to consolidate, I guess!" noted Amrich on Twitter when fans Tweeted him regarding the Marvel vs Capcom games disappearance.
Since both iconic companies (Activision and Capcom) game's are being removed from online gaming stores, it looks like Marvel is re-assessing game distribution and licenses across the board.
The removal of the Deadpool game was very surprising because it was just released six months ago.
As of right now, the only way you can buy Marvel games developed by Capcom and Activision is through retail stores.
