Dramatic depiction of the lives of sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson. In the opener, Masters begins conducting a secret study of human sexuality and meets Virginia Johnson, a former nightclub singer who joins the hospital secretarial staff and proves herself to be an asset to Masters' work.

If you watched the final season of Dexter, which wrapped up last Sunday, you probably saw a couple trailer clips of the new Showtime series, Masters of Sex.

If you plan on tuning into the Season 1 premiere only to see scenes dominated by sex, then I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Dr. William Masters [Michael Sheen] and Virgina Johnson [Lizzy Caplan] were two pioneers on the forefront of sex research. They brought a Puritan notion of sex into public domain.

Masters, like many repressed men of his generation, had somewhat of a stiff, formal relationship with his wife. Thinking the dynamic was commonplace, he was shocked to hear a prostitute tell him a lot of girls "fake it;" "it" obviously being an orgasm.

His research assistant Virginia Johnson confirmed the revelation. When asked why she tells Masters, women "fake it" end the activity and move on to what they'd rather be doing.

The shocking discovery kicks off a series of sexual experiments to understand sex as something that can be void of emotion, and exist purely physical.

Masters of Sex Season 1 Episode 1 "Pilot" is set to premiere Sunday night at 10 PM ET on Showtime.
