Miami Heat: To Keep LeBron James Does Dwayne Wade Have to Go? Hall of Fame Shooting Guard Too Injury Prone?
Though Chris Bosh was definitely the weak link of the Miami Heat's 2013 postseason run, Dwayne Wade could be the one holding the keys for the team's future.
Both LeBron James and Dwayne Wade have options in their contracts to sign elsewhere after next season. Could this NBA season be the last time we see the two on the same team? Of course a third championship in a row could have a big part in next summer's off-season.
In fact, going forward, not one player on the Heat's roster is guaranteed money after this season. This essentially gives Pat Riley and the Heat front office all the money in the world to hopefully re-sign LeBron and pick and choose his supporting cast.
Is Dwayne Wade part of that future?
At 31 years old, Wade is a surefire Hall of Fame inductee. That's because of his past accomplishments. What about now?
His rush the basket style of play has caught up to his ailing knees. In fact, Wade reportedly needed his left knee drained before Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
If Wade, much like LeBron last offseason, can improve his perimeter shooting and limit the amount of times he recklessly rushes the basket, then maybe the Heat get value from him going forward.
Regardless of sentimentality, LeBron James has to do what's best for LeBron James.
The truth is, King James plays better without Wade on the floor. Despite winning back to back championships, LeBron needs a different kind of star on his team.
The bottom line: if the Heat want LeBron to stay in Miami, then Wade most likely has to go.
