Microsoft Surface 2 Release Date: Review of Specs and Features for the October 22^nd, 2013 Release Date [VIDEO]

Microsoft is going through some hard times right now with a CEO changeover and a 7.2 billion dollar acquisition of Nokia. The Surface 2 is supposed to bring Microsoft out of its rut and add some spark to the company. The only problem for the Microsoft Surface 2 is that it doesn't have very many buyers yet. The huge in-store release at midnight, the colorful commercials, the marketing campaign... these things just haven't made consumers want to pull out their wallet. It certainly doesn't help that their Cupertino competitor Apple is releasing several new products today, either.

Let's take a look at the Surface 2. Why aren't people buying it right now?

Mark Hachman from PCWorld.com writes, "The Microsoft Surface 2 costs $449, and will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB configurations. Surface Pro 2 will come in 64GB and 128GB configurations with 4GB of RAM as well as 256GB and 512GB configurations with 8GB of RAM, with prices starting a $899. Some of the orders for the higher-end Surface Pro 2 options have been pushed back until December, although Microsoft has said that it may have some in stock at physical stores. Over time, Microsoft's Surface Pro 2 could end up being the face of modular computing, with a docking station and so-called Power Cover debuting next year. But Microsoft has had to weather the embarrassment of writing down its first-generation Surface tablets to the tune of over $900 million, as demand for the pricey tablets fizzled. Microsoft then instituted a series of discounts to try to move its inventory, with limited success."

It isn't helping Microsoft that critics are decidedly middle-of-the-line when reviewing the Surface and Surface Pro 2. There are a bunch of fans of the device, but no one out there is worshipping it the way they do the iPad and iPad Mini from Apple.
