Microsoft released the latest Surface series laplet, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, on June 20 this year. This device runs on the Windows 8.1 Pros OS 64-bit version and comes with a 12-inch display. Not only is the screen larger than its predecessor, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2, it is also slimmer and lighter than the latter.

Moreover, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 comes with a superior high-friction kickstand, capable of opening up to 150 degrees, in addition to latest accessories, counting a redesigned type cover and a battery-powered Bluetooth-active Surface Pen. The battery of this device is capable of supporting up to 9 hours of Web browsing.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is powered by the 4th generation Intel-Core processor along with the TPM chip. The device comes with a hot swap microSD slot, which can support memory cards up to 128GB.

This device has InstantGo that allows power management akin to those of smartphones and is capable of connecting with two external displays. The maximum supported resolutions, however, vary across configurations depending on the CPU model.

Most reviews of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 have generally been favorable, but some amount of doubt exists amongst consumers. According to CNET, "While the new Surface Pro 3 is Microsoft's best PC to date, it's more successful as a tablet than a laptop replacement," and EndGadget is of the view that it "is Microsoft's biggest and best tablet yet, but it needs a better keyboard to truly replace your laptop."

Similarly Ars Technica says, "Surface Pro 3 is the closest Microsoft has come yet to producing a laptop-killing tablet. But the laptop will live on to fight another day. This time around, the third iteration isn't the one that gets it right," while the review on Gizmodo reads, "The Surface Pro 3 is now a passable laptop, which is fantastic. But the added benefit of a full Windows tablet is still pretty niche."

On the other hand, PC Mag said, "with its 12-inch, high-resolution display, full-friction kickstand, and Surface Pen, Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 tablet aims to be the only mobile PC you need. But will you ditch your laptop? We're not so sure."

The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 comes in a variety of prices depending on the configuration options available at the Microsoft Store. The 64GB / Intel i3 Microsoft Surface Pro 3 model comes at $799, while the 128GB / Intel i5 is available for $999 and the 256GB / Intel i5 for $1,299. The 256GB / Intel i7 Microsoft Surface Pro 3 comes at $1,549, and a 512GB / Intel i7 at $1,949.
