Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Review: Specs & Price Information Emerges

It's been a month since the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 was released and fans are still talking about it in reviews and on social media.

The Surface Pro 3 is a cross between a tablet and a laptop; not quite a tablet or a laptop, but sitting in between the two. The specs are comparable to Apple's Macbook Air, but the Surface Pro 3 has merits of its own.

Being a laptop-tablet hybrid, one of the best things about the Surface Pro 3 is its type cover, an accessory that acts as a tablet cover and a keyboard. Unfortunately for the Surface Pro 3, the type cover is also one of the worst things about the device because it does not come with it on purchase. Instead it is a separately-sold accessory, at a price of $130.

The Surface Pro 3 comes with a single USB 3.0 port, a microSD card reader, and a Mini DisplayPort. Fairly essential enough for any external storage and porting. The camera comes at 5-megapixels with 1080p video recording capabilities, a standard for any tablet. Storage for the Surface Pro can range from 64GB to 512GB depending on what the consumer needs.

There are several variants of the device that all utilize the newest of Intel's family of processors. The i5 128GB and 256GB variants of the Pro 3 have already arrived, with the i3 64GB variant and the two i7 256GB and 512GB variants shipping in late August.

Being a hybrid laptop, it doesn't handle games too well with the lack of a dedicated video card. It can however, handle basic day-to-day tasks very well like browsing or creating documents or using Photoshop. The battery also lasts fairly long, going for 7 hours and 28 minutes, based on standard battery tests.

The Surface Pro 3 starts at $799 and at that price, the specs and hardware are good enough especially since it's a hybrid. It can do what a tablet can do with the versatility of a laptop.
