Microsoft Windows 10 VR News Update: What Is The Minimum CPU Specs To Play VR Headset?
The latest news on the Microsoft Windows 10 VR reveal the minimum requirements for the CPU before the user can play the virtual reality headset.
The minimum specs are, per The Verge:
- Intel Mobile Core i5 (e.g. 7200U) Dual-Core with Hyperthreading equivalent for the CPU
- Integrated Intel® HD Graphics 620 (GT2) equivalent or greater DX12 API Capable for graphics
- 8GB+ Dual Channel required for integrated Graphics for RAM
- HDMI 1.4 with 2880x1440 @ 60 Hz or HDMI 2.0 or DP 1.3+ with 2880x1440 @ 90 Hz
- 100GB+ SSD (Preferred) / HDD
- USB 3.0 Type-A or USB 3.1 Type-C Port with DisplayPort Alternate Mode
- Bluetooth 4.0 for accessories
The news about the Microsoft Windows 10 VR requirements is not at all surprising, considering that the company already announced during its October event about the specs as low as possible. Certainly, the specs are lower than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
According to TheNextWeb, people can even play the VR even with the Intel Kaby Lake processors. But it's completely scalable from the typical modern computer with dedicated graphics matching or stronger than Kaby Lake up to the premium PCs.
That bodes well for those who really want to experience VR but doesn't have the budget to upgrade their computers to match the specs of HTC or Oculus. Microsoft also expanded its list of supported VR brands, including Chinese manufacturer 3Glasses.
