MLB Rumors News Update: Marlins Jose Fernandez Tied To Yankees, Jose Abreu’s Advances His Perfromance
Marlins Jose Fernandez has been linked to the Yankees while Jose Abreau has reportedly brought back his previous performance.
An MLB insider has connected the Yankees to Fernandez, according to NJ. As per the publication, the athelete had long been the apple of the eye of several big-market teams that would not mind writing the extension check. Some of these teams inclde the Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox, and Yankees.
At the moment, there is no extension talks between Miami and Fernadez's agent Scott Boras, but the athlete stands as one of the top starters in the sport. As per the publication, he owns a 2.39 FIP, 2.99 ERA, and 12.4 SO/9 across the 174.1 innings pitched in Miami.
In other news Abreu has reportedly returned to his former self, in terms of performance. According to Beyond the Box Score, the althlete is hitting .342/.393/.556, with 13 home runs in 257 plate appearance. His walk rate has moved up from 5.8 percent to 6.6. Percent and his ISO has increased to more than .200. Also, his 153 WRC+ in the second half is now seen as ninth among the MLB hitters.
Previosuly, Abreu's walk rate declined from 8.2 percent to 5.8 percent in 2015 and his ISO dropped from .264 to .212. Things became more alarming when he had a 129 wRC+, which was still 29th among the qualified MLB hitters. The athletes' stats continued to decrease this year when he just hit .271/.326/.430 in the first half, along with a 97 WRC+.
Along with Abreu, other core hitters include Adam Eaton and Tim Anderson.
