'Moana' News: Latest Movie Trailer Highlights Supporting Characters Gramma Tala And Tamatoa
Previous teasers for "Moana" have shown Disney fans quite a bit of its two lead characters, Maui and Moana. Recently, however, the latest promo materials for the upcoming animated Disney film shed light on two of its supporting characters, Gramma Tala and Tamatoa.
Gramma Tala is one of the few villagers who encourages Moana to pursue her dream to explore the world, while Tamatoa is a gigantic crab who is fascinated with bright and shiny things. The character resembles Smaug, only that he is a goofy crab.
A promo clip for "Moana" shows Gamma Tala practicing reverse psychology on her granddaughter. The character is voiced by Rachel House, who recently played the role of the overenthusiastic child welfare services officer named Paula in "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" by Taika Waititi.
Last month, a "Moana" footage presentation revealed that Tala is the one who will reveal the truth about their people's history to Moana. It is through her that Moana will learn that they were once explorers who conquered the Pacific.
Another promo clip features the usual goofy Jermaine Clement.
Here is the synopsis for "Moana:"
"Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped - and no one knows exactly why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes "Moana," a sweeping, CG-animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master wayfinder. Together, they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she's always sought: her own identity."
"Moana" opens in theaters on November 23.
