Monica Spear Killed in Attempted Robbery, Former Miss Venezuela Killed in Front of 5-Year-old Daughter
Actress and former Miss Venezuela, Monica Spear, was killed in a robbery along with her ex-husband on Monday night.
Police reports indicate the 29-year-old along with Henry Thomas Berry were killed on the side of the road in front of their 5-year-old daughter after they were in a small accident down in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela. The family was waiting for a tow truck when the attempted robbery took place.
According to Huffington Post, the authorities indicated the child had a bullet wound to the leg, but was now doing fine.
Huffington Post reported the family was vacationing in Venezuela, and were expected to return to Miami, Spear's current home, next week.
Although the couple was divorced, USA Today reports the two had a great relationship and raised their daughter together.
"To think there are people who can shoot a mother and father in front of their daughter is very sad and unbelievable," family friend Diego Sanchez said to NBC. "And it's shocking when it happens to someone you know."
Spear became Miss Venezuela in 2004, and tried for Miss Universe in 2005. She was most recently involved in Spanish Novelas, and broke into the U.S. Hispanic network, Telemundo in 2011.
The crime rate in Venezuela is a bit out of control to start the New Year, as IB Times reported there have already been 70 people killed, and had more than 24,000 homicides last year.
