Monty Python Reunion in the Works: Fact or Fiction?
Monty Python Reunion in the Works: Fact or Fiction?
There have been rumors swirling around the Internet about a possible Monty Python reunion. The rumors are founded in Terry Jones' statement about a reunion earlier this week in which he stated, "I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage!" in true Monty Python fashion.
The last time that all of the living Pythons appeared onstage together was for an interview in 1998 with Robert Klein after they won the AFI Star Award. They haven't all been together onstage for a performance or interview since then, so if this reunion show goes as planned it will be a huge moment for Monty Python fans.
The group has always been pretty insightful about its own aging and death, and has embraced the commercial aspects of their art in a very hilarious and cynical way.
The last project they all worked on together was called "The Meaning of Life," in which they went further down the rabbit hole with satire and existential questions. Some critics argue that "The Meaning of Life" was the group's best work and maybe even funniest work.
Not all fans are happy about the Monty Python reunion, however. Some critics are taking the "what's done is done" attitude and hoping that the group will just let the project be without trying to resurrect it.
Other critics are worried that the Pythons will try to introduce new material to an already established humor style. Are you worried that the Python reunion won't go as planned? Do you think it will happen at all? Let us know what you think in the comments!
