With the arrival of the Moto 360, it seems like smartwatches are increasing in popularity this year. However, a new rival has appeared for the aforementioned smartgear in the form an an LG G Watch R.

Comparing the specs and features of the devices is the only way to find out which one suits the consumer best.

Starting off with the price, the Moto 360 is a lot cheaper than the LG G Watch R.

The Moto 360 has a price tag of £199 while those who want to buy the LG G Watch R will have to shell out £20 more as it costs £219.

Beyond that, design and style is a major determining factor when choosing a smartwatch, and both the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R have different aesthetic properties.

Both have a stainless steel frame and a leather strap which come in 22m standard size. Both also have a physical button on the side of the frame and sport an IP67 rating which means both smartwatches are capable of being submerged 1 meter underwater for 30 minutes.

On the downside, both watches are relatively larger than the Apple Watch, so anyone with a small wrist may find the devices too big.

In terms of display, both sport classic round shape that feels natural. However, the G Watch R has a slightly smaller screen with 1.3-inches compared to the Moto 360 having 1.56-inches.

Although, some feel the Moto 360 has a weird screen, with the bottom part of it slightly cut off to fit an ambient light sensor. In an all-white display, having a black part at the bottom seems like a "flat tire effect."

However, the LG G Watch R wins on display quality because it has a higher pixel resolution of 320 x 320 and a pixel density of 348 ppi while the Moto 360 has 320 x 290 resolution and a 205 ppi pixel density. The LG G Watch R also has an impressive P-OLED display on top of that.

Both watches have 4 GB internal storage, 512 MB RAM and Bluetooth 4.0. Other features available are heart rate monitor and pedometer, but the G Watch R exclusively has a barometer for computing elevation on top of steps.

Both have different processors with the LG watch boasting of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 while Motorola watch went for OMAP 3 processor.

In terms of battery life, LG wins this round as it has 410 mAh compared to the 320 mAh of the Motorola 360, though the latter edges out the LG watch since it is capable of wireless charging, while the LG G Watch R charges via metal contacts.

Overall, the LG G Watch R edges out the Moto 360 in terms of added features, battery life, and display resolution. However, with a more expensive price tag, choosing the Moto 360 is not a bad choice.
