'NBA 2K17' Update & News: Virtual Reality Mini-Games But No Actual Basketball Yet

The latest "NBA 2K17" news should leave fans giddy, if only because of the potential to play basketball in 3D.

According to the report, this would bring sports games to another level. For now, leagues have not signed contracts for VR play on the different consoles. But 2K Sports could pave the way for others to follow.

However, the bad news is that it won't be a total immersive basketball experience for "NBA 2K17." But players can play Party Tournaments, Skills Challenge Course, Three-Point Shootouts and Time Attack.

Polygon said the news about the "NBA 2K17" virtual reality mini-games is very interesting only because VR is not fit for sports events. For instance, people who are fans of the game typically play basketball themselves and they are bound to get disappointed.

Also, it said that the purpose of playing "NBA 2K17" is to play as their favorite NBA player, and that would have been the ideal setup in virtual reality game.

In other news, the developer reportedly released a patch for "NBA 2K17" to fix some bugs on the game.

Among the fixes were the disappearing pass icons on PS4 Pro, as well as the dribbling animation to boost responsiveness.

"Fixed an issue that would sometimes cause CPU-controlled ball handlers to run out of bounds when attacking the baseline," the patch notes said. "Cleaned up an issue that lead to unrealistic speed bursts in some size-up escape and combo moves."

The news reports said that "NBA 2K17" launched on Nov. 22 on PlayStation 4, Samsung Gear VR with Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. It costs $15.
