Nintendo 2DS Release Date Oct 2013, Lower Price Than 3DS, See Specs & Watch Trailer Here (VIDEO)

Nintendo 2DS will be hitting the shelves in October just in time for the holiday shopping 2013.

The 2DS will come at a cheaper price than the 3DS version which released in 2011. The 2DS will have mostly the same internal hardware as the 3DS without the stereoscopic 3D functionality.

It will feature a new slate design and will have the twin displays the same sizes as the original 3DS screens (3.5 inches for the top display, 3 inches for the lower). It will have keep dual camera lenses on the backside so it will take stereoscopic photos, but you'll need to transfer them to a 3DS to view them correctly.

The wireless internet connection will still be featured in the new 2DS for use of features like StreetPass and SpotPass. The color options will be red/white or black/blue and be priced at....

They wanted to make a device that for be more affordable for families for this Christmas season.

Nintendo issued health warnings for the 3DS advising against the viewing of stereoscopic effects for children under the age of 7. That along with higher prices has caused the new 2DS to be produced.

The launch of the 2DS makes sense," said Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games at IHS Electronics and Media. "Unlike Sony with its PS Vita, this younger consumer is Nintendo's core user for its handhelds, and the 3DS, while performing better since 2012, is still relatively expensive and also able to display 3D, which carries a warning for younger children. Launching a cheaper, non-3D, non-hinged product plugs the gap left in Nintendo's portfolio created by the decline of its original DS platform."

Even consumers who do have the 3DS device currently, turn the 3D feature off a lot of the time when they are playing because they say it can be distracting. So it will be interesting to see how the 2DS sells with a cheaper price point and what the next move for handheld 3D gaming at Nintendo will be.
