Nintendo's New Console will Integrate Wii U and 3DS to Create a 'Family of Systems' Like iOS and Android's Multi Platform Gaming

Nintendo's Satoru Iwata hinted that their next console may be integrated with a handheld.

In a recent Q&A session following a presentation of the company's poor third quarter financial results, the Nintendo executive answered questions about development, integration, and innovation moving forward with the company.

According to Polygon, from there, the head boss spoke about the difficulties of transition with Wii games to the 3DS, and 3DS games to the Wii U.

"If the transition of software from platform to platform can be made simpler, this will help solve the problem of game shortages in the launch periods of new platforms," said Iwata to an analyst.

He went on to explain that rather than starting from scratch with a whole new console, he would rather build off of what the Wii U is currently, and move from there.

"While we are only going to be able to start this with the next system, it will become important for us to accurately take advantage of what we have done with the Wii U architecture," said Iwata as he went on to compare the marriage of handhelds and consoles to be a "brothers in a family of systems."

Polygon reported that Iwata is uncertain what the new console will be, but said it should be like iOS and Android because of their ability to put numerous games on different platforms.
