One Direction Movie This is Us Beat Out by The Butler in Opening Weekend at the Box Office in U.S.
One Direction has been taking over top radio in America and worldwide but the singing group sensations could not win the box office for the holiday weekend with their new movie.
One Direction: This is Us released to theaters in America this weekend but was edged out by The Butler. The most impressive thing about this is that The Butler is on its third weekend now while the One Direction movie was debuting this weekend.
The Butler stars Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey and focuses on the civil rights area through the eyes of a black White House servant. The film is directed by Lee Daniels.
The Butler pulled in over $20 million with One Direction: This Is Us pulling in $18 million.
Sony made the concert documentary for around $10 and expected a higher turn out from the box office but will definitely make plenty of money still in the long run.
This Is Us was directed by Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me).
Third place in the box office this weekend was We're the Millers starring Jennifer Aniston that brought in $15.9 million. Fourth place was Disney's animated movie Planes bringing in $10.7 million and in fifth place was Instructions Not Included bringing in $10 million.
