Orlando Rodriguez Impacts High School Students While Serving As Guest Speaker
Ten Three Records recording artist Orlando Rodriguez had quite an impact on the lives of students at NorthPointe Christian High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan last month when he served as guest speaker and artist during the school's Spiritual Emphasis Week. Rodriguez shared the platform with former Philadelphia Eagles fullback, Kevin Clemens, and special guest artist, Watchmane.
"The theme for the week was 'You Will Never Walk Alone,'" says Rodriguez. "We emphasized two key scriptures: Deuteronomy 31:6, where God tells his people that He will always be there for them, and Luke 9:48, which emphasizes our need to care for each other to ensure that we do not walk alone."
In one of the highlights of the special week-long event, Rodriguez was joined on stage by a surprise guest--former NFL star, Kevin Clemens. The two friends shared a talk called "The Game Changer."
"Jesus Christ is the ultimate game changer," explains Rodriguez. "Kevin and I both shared our personal testimonies about how God has changed our lives, and then focused on encouraging the students to allow God to lead their lives. After all, He is the ultimate game changer. He can change everything."
"NorthPointe Christian High School was blessed to have Orlando speak into the lives of our students at our Spiritual Emphasis Time this spring," says Scott Huckaby, Athletic and Spiritual Life Director for NorthPointe Christian Schools.
"We went into it knowing how God has blessed him musically, but were able to testify to his ability to speak unashamedly from God's Word. He quickly earned our kids' respect and developed a rapport that allowed him to speak freely to both encourage and challenge them from the Word and his story. His life and message are highly relevant and clearly immersed in God's Word. He kept a great balance of fun, music, and message that ministered in a powerful way to our kids and the NPC community. It was a home run with our high school students."
Rodriguez is currently touring in support of his debut solo project, Turn the World Off, which was produced and mixed by hit-maker Chuck Alkazian (Percy Bady, Desmond Pringle, Christina Aguilera) at Pearl Sound in Canton, Michigan, and released to retail through Ten Three Records. Turn the World Off represents a musical journey of faith and showcases a new season of artistry for Rodriguez, who has toured and shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the music industry--including Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, and *NSYNC--as the lead singer of the band P.U.M.P. before turning his music over to the Lord.
The new album represents four years of transition and spiritual growth for Rodriguez, as he has learned to incorporate his music and his faith, and to listen for God's guidance in his life and career. "We are all so busy, we all have so much going on, we are all so distracted that sometimes it's hard to hear what God is saying to us," Rodriguez muses.
"And that's the real question, isn't it? Am I hearing from God, or am I simply going about my life and asking God to bless what I'm doing? Sometimes you have to turn the world off and eliminate those external distractions to really hear God!"
Rodriguez believes he has been called to reach this generation with the gift of song. "I've traveled a lot of places and I have seen a bunch of venues," he says. "And I only have two goals that I live by--to edify the body of Christ and to evangelize those who don't know God."
With an approachable style and a focus on impact, Rodriguez is a new voice for the Lord at a time when his music and life message are unquestionably relevant.
