Apple announced the free download of its new operating system, called OS X Mavericks, on Tuesday at its annual unveiling event in California. The Cupertino company also revealed an iPad Air, a new iPad Mini, a new MacBook Pro and a new iMac. The new OS update offers several new features and is FREE to download.

TechCrunch did a review of the new Apple OS after its unveiling on Tuesday. Darrell Etherington wrote, "Mavericks is free and Mavericks is very good. Apple has really turned the business of desktop software on its head with this update, and there's no reason not to update - in fact, there's every reason to make the software change as soon as you can. Even if you're not particularly drawn by any single new feature, everyone will find something to love among all the little changes Apple has baked into the 10^th and latest iteration of OS X."

Here are a few updates:

Finder - The Finder now has "tags." Tags are a way to group files beyond where they actually are in your computer through the use of colors to identify types of files.

Notifications - Notifications are much more like the mobile iOS system now and feature the "do not disturb" option.

Battery Life and Performance - Mavericks makes battery life a lot better by compressing files that are not currently being used into much smaller files instantaneously.
