"Peter Pan" Movie Scheduled for 2014 Release: Will Javier Bardem Play the Villainous BlackBeard?
Warner Brothers is currently in talks to begin production on "Pan," the newest Peter Pan movie about the origin story of the boy from Never Never Land. The movie is supposed to be a gritty reboot to the Peter Pan franchise, which has always been targeted exclusively at children. Joe Wright is the current director of this project in an attempt to gain some star power behind the movie.
Warner Brothers recently offered the role of BlackBeard to Javier Bardem. Bardem starred in "No Country For Old Men" and "Skyfall," two of the most critically acclaimed movies of the past ten years. Bardem has never been one to turn down a villainous role, in fact, it seems like he only plays the villain these days in Hollywood.
Some critics are speculative about the choice for Bardem as BlackBeard instead of the much more well known Captain Hook. However, if you look deeper into the Peter Pan world, you will find that the two are interconnected and they even served on the same pirate ship together.
BlackBeard is based off of a real pirate named Edward Teach. He roamed the Caribbean in a ship called the "Queen Anne's Revenge" and had a beard that started at his eyes and was always braided. He was said to have lit his beard on fire when boarding a ship in order to surround himself with smoke.
