PlayStation 4 Sales Exceed 4.2 Million in 2013 Announced Sony's Andrew House at CES
Sony sold more than 4.2 million PlayStation 4's in its short month and a half run in 2013.
Sony Computer Entertainment president Andrew House made the impressive announcement at the CES event yesterday.
According to Polygon, Sony is looking to sell five million units by March 2014, and they appear to be way ahead of target. They sold one million on launch day alone.
"The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn't be more thrilled gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network," House said in a prepared statement. "After a remarkable launch, we look forward to bringing even more exciting content and continuing to explore the power of the PS4 system by adding new features and services, including PlayStation Now, in 2014."
In addition to big console sales, House also stated 9.7 million games have been sold.
Microsoft recently announced they sold three million consoles in 2013 as well.
"Over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013," said Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing, strategy and business for Microsoft's Xbox division on Xbox Wire.
According to Microsoft, the Xbox One also sold over one million consoles on its launch day, and hit the two million mark just 13 days later making it the fastest selling console in the U.S. for the month.
"November NPD Group figures released today revealed 909,132 Xbox One units were sold in the U.S. in the console's first nine days, making it the fastest selling console on the market in the U.S. Xbox One sales averaged a volume of more than 101,000 consoles per day, significantly outpacing the nearest competitor," a statement from the Xbox Wire read last month.
PS4 retails for $399 while Xbox One is available for $499.
