'Pokémon Sun And Moon' Update, News: Sun And Moon Game Set Sales Record
The "Pokémon Sun And Moon" set sales record based on the pre-order tally released by Nintendo.
Based on the figures, 3.7 million units have been pre-ordered for the game in less than two weeks.
A statement from Nintendo confirmed that "Pokémon Sun And Moon" indeed set sales record. It read:
"With these huge sales figures, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokémon series are sure to please any player in the family."
In comparison, "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" used to be the record holder in the Nintendo 3DS family when they were launched in 2013. They sold a combined 4 million units in the first seven days alone.
Polygon said "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y" sold a total of more than 15 million units since their launch for the Nintendo 3DS. It said that the "Pokémon Diamond," "Pokémon Pearl" and "Pokémon Platinum" also had strong reception from gamers as they moved a total of 25 million units.
The "Pokémon Sun And Moon" set sales record as the new numbers represent an 85% increase over the "Pokémon X" and "Pokémon Y."
The "Pokémon Sun And Moon" is poised to set sales record not just in the US, but in other areas as well. Accordingly, 1.5 million pre-orders have been made in Europe while 1.9 million copies have been sold so far in Japan.
