Prince Guest Stars in Super Bowl Episode of New Girl and is 'Genuinely Funny' says Producer

Grammy Award winning musician Prince will appear on Fox's hit comedy series, New Girl, on their upcoming Super Bowl episode.

New Girl's executive producer Brett Baer told E! News that he will attempt to aid Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) with their relationship issues.

"He's right in the middle of trying to help [Nick and Jess] work through some stuff and it's amazing," said Baer to E! News. "His thing was all about getting to Jess and trying to bring out this inner part of her that hadn't been brought to the forefront..."

"He (Prince) said, 'I want to be involved in the show in a real way and I want to help Nick and Jess with their relationship,' " said other New Girl executive producer, Dave Finkel to E! News.

Prince first reached out to the show's producers in order to get his future guest spot.

"He contacted us last season because he's a huge fan," said Baer. "He knows everything about the show. He contacted Zooey and Hannah [Simone] directly and asked to do the show. We couldn't work it out last year. But when the Super Bowl thing was floated, it was perfect timing."

Finkel told fans of the show they will not be dissatisfied by the musician's comedic skills in the episode.

"He's genuinely funny," said Dave Finkel to E! News. "He's got a very quiet, wry sense of humor but he kills. There's a moment in the episode where he's sitting in between Zooey and Jake on a bench. And it's a silent beef and he's just looking between them trying to figure them out. And it's hilarious. He has crazy comic instincts."

The episode will be about Jess getting invited to an event hosted by Prince. Her friends then attempt to get their hands on an invitation as well.

In addition to New Girl, an all-new episode of the Golden Globe-winning "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" will broadcast that evening, according to Billboard.

Bruno Mars will be the lead performer of the Super Bowl's halftime show and will be performing along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Super Bowl 48 will air live from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on February 2.
