PS4, Xbox One Twitch: 'We Hope to See a Day When Playing a Game is the Same as Broadcasting One' Says Exec

Twitch will now be on both the PS4 and Xbox One, and once this already popular function hits the two next-gen consoles its possibilities are endless.

"In both instances (with Xbox One and the PS4) we worked closely with our partners to ensure their integrations matched what they wanted to roll out," Matthew DiPietro, Twitch's Vice President of Marketing said to Polygon. "Because Sony wanted their integration built in on the hardware level, they handled it themselves with our guidance, while we worked on the app in-house for Microsoft, but ensured it aligned with their vision and roadmap."

According to DiPietro's interview with Polygon, he said both consoles are approaching the broadcasting tool differently.

"We can't speak to the roadmap of our partner integrations, but we can say with any integration there are ways to continue to evolve the experience. Of course we hope to improve on both partnerships as we learn more about the ways console gamers use Twitch," he said.

Twitch is so popular on the PS4 that in the last week of 2013, Sony console owners made up about 20 percent of all the content on the site, reported Polygon. While the Xbox One has not had a chance to experience this yet, they will be getting Twitch on March 11.

"We're really proud of the Twitch experience we're launching," said Xbox Live program manager Chad Gibson to Polygon. "The snap mode plays extremely well for Twitch scenarios."

As far as Twitch users uploading inappropriate content, Twitch has a moderation system in place.

"We are able to quickly remove any inappropriate content that we observe or is flagged by our ever vigilant moderators and users," DiPietro said. "And we have a close partnership with both Sony and Microsoft regarding moderation processes and teams."

Overall, the creators of Twitch are hoping the broadcasting app changes the face of video games forever.

"We hope to see a day when playing a game is the same as broadcasting one," he said. "And we're definitely on our way."
