PS4 vs Xbox One Sales: PlayStation 4 Outsells Microsoft's Console in the UK by 116,000

The PS4 outsold the Xbox One in the UK in 2013 by 116,000 units Sony claims.

According to Sony's account, they sold 530,000 consoles in five weeks compared to Xbox One's 364,000.

"Games continues to deliver digital sales strongly, but it was disappointing that Xbox One and PS4 came so late in 2013 and then huge demand meant stock sold out quickly," said Kim Bayley, director general of ERA.

"Retailers will be working hard in 2014 to maintain the sales momentum of these two great new pieces of kit."

Nintendo's Wii U beat out the Xbox One in global sales the week before Christmas.

The Wii U sold 319,860 units internationally while the Xbox One sold just 307,366, according to VGChartz.

Nintendo's 3DS handheld system and Sony's PS4 led the way this past holiday season with 1.07 million systems and 656,655 units sold respectively.

The PS4 is making its way to Japan on February 22, so sales of Sony's console are about to go up even more. A commercial, which showed exuberant gamers all over the world getting their hands on the fastest selling console of all time, flashes "2.22" at the end of it, signaling a February 22 release.

According to IGN, despite the presence of the Wii U and Xbox One in Japan already, the PS4 is expected to reign king of the next-gen.
