Robinson Cano Signs $240 Million, 10-Year Contract with Seattle Mariners Thanks to Agent Jay-Z
Thanks to Jay-Z, Robinson Cano isn't just a businessman; he's a business...man! According to recent reports Cano is heading to the west coast.
Ending his successful stint as a New York Yankees infielder, Cano is expected to sign a deal worth $252 million over 10 years with the Seattle Mariners. The negotiation wasn't without its road bumps however. Apparently Cano's agent Jay-Z increased the original offer of $225 million over 9 years to a 10-year deal worth $252 million.
Mariners president Howard Lincoln allegedly "exploded" and took the entire offer off the table. Flexing his business prowess Jay-Z's tactics apparently proved successful as the Mariners budged for the 10-year contract worth only a few million less than Cano's reps were asking for.
Finding out early Friday morning, Robinson's father couldn't be more proud of his son's accomplishments.
"We're really happy," Jose Cano told the Daily News. "We got the 10 years. (Robinson) loved the Yankees, but now we are switching to the Mariners. We're making Seattle home. He called me about 3 am (Pacific time) and told me the news, and he's very happy."
ESPN Deportes first broke news of the new contract. The announcement will not be made official until Cano successfully passes a physical.
