Royal Rumble 2014 Results: Batista Wins the Big Match but WWE Drops the Ball with Daniel Bryan
In the 2014 edition of WWE's Royal Rumble event last night, there were many surprises, including the omission of Daniel Bryan at the signature Royal Rumble match.
Bryan lost against his rival Bray Wyatt in the first official match of the night. The wrestler fell victim to Wyatt's finisher, "Sister Abigail," for the pinfall.
Prior to the Bryan vs Wyatt match, he New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) took a trip down memory lane and defeated the Rhodes Brotherhood (Cody Rhodes and Goldust) to win the WWE tag team championship for the sixth time as DX members. Billy Gunn got the win after delivering his finisher on Rhodes.
Following Bryan and Wyatt, Brock Lesnar defeated the Big Show in a quick match after delivering his finishing move the F5 in the middle of the ring.
Next was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton's match as he tried to retain his title again against his current rival John Cena after Wyatt interfered in the match. Following Wyatt's distraction, Orton delivered the RKO for the victory. All three members of the Wyatt family, Wyatt, Eric Rowan, and Luke Harper, attacked Cena following his match with Orton. Cena is now expected to start a feud with Wyatt.
At the Royal Rumble match, CM Punk and The Shield member Seth Rollins were the first two entries of the match. However, Rollins' fellow Shield member Roman Reigns set a Royal Rumble Record last night by eliminating 12 men (the former record was 11 eliminations by Kane at a previous RR match). However, Reigns dominance yesterday ended when Batista threw him over the top rope to end the match. Batista won the RR match for the second time in his career and will face the champion at Wrestlemania.
Still, many wrestling fans are still puzzled as to why Daniel Bryan, the most popular superstar in the WWE for over a year, was not added to the event last night.
Monday Night Raw is on USA Network tonight at 8pm E.S.T., and will undoubtedly recap last night's event.
