Russell Crowe's 'Noah' Tweet Encourages Pope Francis to Watch ‘Powerful, Fascinating, Resonant” Film (TRAILER)
Actor Russell Crowe took to social media to try to persuade Pope Francis into seeing his latest Biblical Epic, Noah, which stars Crowe as the biblical patriarch.
The $125 million film, hits theaters March 28, and it already is stirring up controversy amongst some religious groups that say the story line did not closely stick to the biblical text. Crowe on the other hand perhaps disagrees with that assessment because he says he would like Pope Francis to see the film.
Crowe tweeted an invite to the pope, which read, "Dear Holy Father,... Screening? The message of the film is powerful, fascinating, resonant." He then followed with another post asking his millions of followers to try to convince the pope as well.
"Villagers, given his environmental focus/scholarly knowledge, trying to screen #Noah for Pope Francis. @Pontifex. You help? retweet previous," he wrote.
There has been no response from the Pope, but the Vatican's chief spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi, stated earlier in the month that the pope doesn't watch films. Reports say that he made that statement when he was asked whether the pontiff would see Philomena, a film that tells the story of an Irish woman's struggle to track down a child taken from her by the Catholic Church in the 1950s.
Paramount Pictures state they are not worried about the criticism Noah is getting because their own surveys show that 83 percent of religious moviegoers say they'd like to see the film.
The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky and written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, it follows the biblical tale of Noah as he builds an ark to save his family and a shipload of animals from the coming flood judgment. The film features a star-studded cast of Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins and Logan Lerman.
