Samsung Galaxy Android 7.0 Nougat Update News: S6 And S6 Edge Software Upgrade; Development Kicks Off

After rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat on the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, the South Korean company is already starting development for the software upgrade of its predecessors, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

According to this news report from Sammobile, Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are next in line to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update as a firmware, with build number XXS5DPK7, allegedly leaked on the Web. Don't get too attached to that number, however, as it's bound to change once the developer beta starts.

Judging from the build, it's a fair assessment that Android 7.0 Nougat won't come to Samsung Galaxy S6 an S6 Edge phones until after the holidays.

Originally, the plan was to also include the Galaxy Note 7 in the list of devices to get an upgrade. Obviously, with the exploding battery fiasco and production being halted, there's no chance of that happening.

The Samsung Galaxy S8, however, is expected to run the Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box. The new device is anticipated to be launched either February or March, 2017.

NeuroGadget has a more specific timeline as it said that software upgrade will arrive on the Galaxy S6 in the first quarter of next year.

The article also suggested that Samsung is not keen on bringing an Android 7.0 update to Samsung Galaxy S5, and that there's no plan of doing so in the near future, or ever.

Samsung just announced the beta test for its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Android 7.0 update, which means owners may receive the prompt or get updated to the new software over the air anytime soon.
