Samsung Galaxy Round Hits Markets: Is the World Ready for a Curved Smartphone? Samsung Galaxy Round Rumors, Specs, Hardware, and Price [VIDEO]
The Samsung Galaxy Round is the first smart phone ever to come out with a rounded/curved screen. Is this the future of smart phones? Many critics fear that the curved feature will not make up for the lack of hardware and the steep price in the eyes of the consumer. Samsung is currently marketing the Samsung Galaxy Round as "the world's first curved display smartphone."
Doug Aamoth from TechLand.com wrote, "It's mildly exciting, in a way. As we previously daydreamed, perhaps having a curved-screen smartphone would cut down on lethal cases of the dropsies: Instead of dropping your phone face-down and ruining the screen, perhaps the curvature of your phone would cushion the blow somewhat." That might be a nice feature for college freshman, but what real-world consumer would buy a phone with a curved screen just so it won't break when they drop it?
Aamoth went on to say, "[The Samsung Galaxy Round is] not to be confused with previous Google-branded Samsung smartphones that featured a piece of curved glass over a flat display. It's reminiscent of the previously-announced Galaxy Note 3, albeit with a slight left-to-right bed (LG is rumored to be prepping a forthcoming curved-display smartphone that bends from top to bottom)."
The phone is only available in Korea currently for around $1,000 with no contract. Will the new curved smartphone satisfy a niche in the United States? Will it be a huge flop in Korea? Right now, it looks like your smartphone is going to stay flat at least for a little while longer. Take a look at this rumor roundup video for the Samsung Galaxy Round!
