San Antonio Spurs Advance to 2013 NBA Finals, Sweep Grizzlies / 2007 Rematch of Spurs Big 3 vs. LeBron James?
With the help of San Antonio's Big 3: Tony Parker, Manu Ginobli and Tim Duncan [Big 4 including head coach Gregg Popovich], the Spurs advanced to the 2013 NBA Finals. They'll play the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals [Heat lead Pacers 2-1; play Game 4 tonight in Indiana].
Last night's 93-86 victory over the Memphis [4 game sweep] marked the 5th time the San Antonio Spurs have won the Western Conference Finals, and reached the NBA Championship series. It's the first finals birth since 2007.
Head coach Popovich said he praised his team for persevering after letting a 2-0 lead slip to the Oklahoma City Thunder in last year's Western Conference Finals.
"You don't expect that to happen maybe this late in the game with the same group," Popovich said in a press conference after the win. "It's tough to do, to maintain something that long. But it just shows the character of those three guys and their ability to play with whoever else is brought in around them. They deserve a lot of credit for that."
As for who the Spurs will play in the final, that has yet to be decided. If Lebron James and the Heat can win Game 4 in Indiana tonight, they have a good shot of closing the series out in Miami in Game 5.
Fun fact: The last time the San Antonio Spurs played in the Finals [2007], they swept LeBron James' and his former team the Cleveland Cavaliers in 4 games.
The best thing for the league is a Spurs, Heat matchup in this year's final. The King wants revenge. But the Spurs want to ride off into the sunset with one more ring.
