'Scandal' Season 6 Premiere News: Next Season Will Pick Up With The Announcement Of New US President
The upcoming season of ABC's "Scandal" will pick up where the previous season left off and will open with the announcement of the new President.
According to reports, show creator Shonda Rhimes has decided to take that direction in order to satisfy the curiosity of fans about the plight of Mellie.
It can be recalled that in "Scandal" season 5, Mellie teamed up with Jake Ballard. He eventually became her running mate in the presidential elections, where they went up against Frank Vargas and Cyrus Been. Cyrus' bid for the vice presidency came as a surprise for Olivia, Mellie and Fitzgerald Grant, since he was the previous teammate of Olivia and Chief of Staff in the White House during Fitz's term.
The recently released trailer for season 6 teases the first 10 minutes of the upcoming season. One part of the clip shows Mellie and Olivia having a heated conversation.
"I am done running for President," Mellie tells Olivia. "Well, I'm not!" answers Olivia.
"A cabin in the woods explores as Huck and Quinn approach it, Olivia Pope and Mellie Grant feel the pressure of the Presidential Election, and a new president is about to be introduced," reveals the synopsis for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that one character will die and Fitz and Olivia will get back together next season.
Portia de Rossi, Darby Stanchfield, Jeff Perry, Joshua Molina and Cornelius Smith, Jr. will reprise their roles in the series, while Jessalyn Gilsig will replace Joelle Carter as the wife of Jake.
"Scandal" season 6 premieres on January 19 on ABC.
