'Sense8' Season 2 Release Date News: Premiere Confirmed For May 2017; Christmas Special Gets Dec. 23 Premiere

Netflix has revealed the premiere date for "Sense8" season 2, as well as the release of its upcoming Christmas special of the mind-blowing series.

In August of 2015, the network confirmed that the series would be renewed for a second season. Since then, however, fans have heard very little about the project.

This week, Netflix has finally confirmed that the 10 new episodes of "Sense8" season 2 will launch globally on May 5, 2017, while the two-hour holiday event "Sense8: A Christmas Special" releasing much earlier on Dec. 23, 12:01 a.m. PT on the streaming network.

Netflix's announcement also came with a new batch of images from the upcoming season and the synopses for both the Christmas special and "Sense8" season 2.

"The journey continues as these eight singular hearts and minds weave in and out of each other's lives finding deeper connections; learning darker, more desperate secrets about one another and struggling to identify with more than just oneself," reads the synopsis for "Sense8: A Christmas Special."

Meanwhile, the synopsis for season 2 reads, "Picking up where season one left off, Capheus, Kala, Lito, Nomi, Riley, Sun, Will and Wolfgang come together both physically and mentally, plunged into the middle of each other's tragedies and triumphs. On the run from Whispers, and forced to question their very identity, it's a matter of survival as the Sensates must find a way to live with, understand and protect one another against all odds."
