New details on the release date and spoilers of BBC's "Sherlock" season 4 have surfaced. As per reports, the series returns in 2017, along with "Thor" actor Tom Hiddleston.

"Sherlock" season 4 is set to be aired in Jan. 2017, Vine Report has learned. As per the publication, the first two episodes are entitled "The Six Thatchers" and The Lying Detective." Both episodes may demonstrate relevance to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic tales "The Adventure of the Six Napoleons" and "The Adventure of The Dying Detective," as per the report.

Hiddleston is also attached to the return of the series next year. According to Observer Culture, the "Thor" actor is set to play the role of Sherlock's third brother Sherrinford. While series creator Mark Gatiss teased the actor's casting during the Comic Con, he is yet to official announce Hiddleston's addition to the series.

Along with his prominent role as Loki in Marvel's "Thor" film series, Hiddleston has also appeared in Marc Abraham's biopic "I Saw the Light" and in Guillermo del Toro's fantasy horror film "Crimson Peak." The actor is set to be seen together with King Kong in Jordan Vogt-Roberts' "Kong: Skull Island" and as Loki in Taika Waititi's "Thor: Ragnarok," which premieres in Nov. 2017.

Talks have also surfaced about "Sherlock" season 4 as the last installment of the BBC series. In his interview with GQ UK, lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch said that it might be the end of an era. He also said that it felt like the end of an era, as it went to a place where it would be pretty hard to follow on immediately.

While it appears that the conclusion of the British-American crime drama television series is coming soon, Cumberbatch said that they will never say never on the show.

Along with "Sherlock 4," Cumberbatch is also set to appear in Alfonso Gomez-Rejon's drama film "The Current War," Andy Serkis' adventure film "Jungle Book," and Scott Derrickson's forthcoming Marvel Comics film "Doctor Strange," which is set to premiere on Nov. 4.
