Sony Playstation 4 Sold One Million Consoles During First Day
The Sony Playstation 4 was released to the United States on November 15th and sold over 1 million consoles during the first 24 hour period that it was available. The console has only been released in the United States and Canada so far, so there is speculation that the PS4 will sell over 5 million unites after its release in Europe on the 29th and in Japan on February 22nd, 2014.
The Playstation 3 only sold 197,000 units in its first two weeks of availability, but that was partly due to the fact that there was a shortage in supply. The Wii U from Nintendo only sold 425,000 units around this time last year when it was released. The PS4's release is by far the biggest in console history.
Andrew House, the CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said, "We are thrilled that consumer reaction has bee so phenomenal. Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29th."
