'Spider-Man' Spinoffs: 'Venom' and 'Sinister Six' Movies Announced by Sony [Trailer]
Spider-Man villainspinoffs are in the works according to recent reports from Sony. The production studio recently announced plans for a movie that centers around Spider-Man's most iconic foe Venom along with an Avengers-style villain movie that would center around the Sinister Six [Hobgoblin, Dr. Octopus, Mysterios, Vulture, Electro and Sandman.
Spearheading the villain franchise installments are producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach with Marc Webb as director.
"This collaboration was born out of the great experience we and Marc had working with Alex, Bob, and Jeff on 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2,'" Arad and Tolmach said of writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinker, Ed Solomon and Drew Goddard.
"With more than 50 years' wealth of stories in the comic books to draw upon for inspiration, the Spider-Man universe is truly boundless; in addition, the Spider-Man comics have the greatest rogues gallery of any series, and to have the chance to explore that on film is truly thrilling.
The upcoming sequel to Man of Steel follows the same "Avengers-style" tactic by adding Batman and Wonder Woman to the cast of characters. There are also plans for a merge between the two main Marvel franchises that would combine the X-Men and Fantastic Four universes.
