Star Wars 7 Cast Rumors: 'Star Trek' Villain to Join New 'Star Wars' Movie? Summer, December 2015 Release Date

Star Wars 7 spoilers and cast rumors!

Though we're still over a year and a half of seeing the final product, there are a couple new details regarding the upcoming Star Wars 7 movie, directed by Star Trek head honcho and future sci-fi king J.J. Abrams.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the latest actor thrown in to casting rumors for the new installment in the Star Wars franchise. Cumberbatch already paid his dues with his terrifying portrayal as beloved/hated space villain Khan in Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness.

Rumor has it Cumberbatch is in talks to be part of the popular George Lucas-created film series.

Would Abrams risk using the main villain in his Star Trek movies by giving Cumberbatch a lead role in rival franchise, Star Wars?

Cumberbatch has denied or confirmed rumors about his potential role in Star Wars 7 but has admitted he was obsessed with the movies as a young lad; much more so than Star Trek.

"I was much more connected to [Star Wars] as a kid, in the way that a lot of kids are because it's immediate storytelling, very simple - a beautifully, outrageously simple narrative in a way - and a wonderful three-act melodrama, opera. And I loved them. I really, really loved those films and I always wanted to be Han Solo ... I was an out-and-out kid running around with a lightsaber wanting to fly the Millennium Falcon..."

At this point Cumberbatch is just another name added to the laundry list of possible cast members including Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer and Peter Pan actress Rachel Hurd-Wood.

Though it's just speculation and rumors, if Cumberbatch was cast, would he be a jedi or a sith?

Star Wars 7 is scheduled for a 2015 release date some time in the summer or near December.
