'Star Wars 7' Cast Rumors: R2-D2 Confirmed, 'Dr. Who' Star Already Auditioned for Role?
Still a little hesitant about J.J. Abrams taking over the Star Wars franchise. Well, he's not. Now that Disney has officially decided on a December 18 release date, the soon-to-be legendary sci-fi director is confident the Episode: VII will be up to par with its predecessors.
"I will say that it is an infinitely better situation now than when they were saying that they wanted it in the summer [of 2015]," Abrams explained to MTV. "Before I even came onto the project, they were talking about 2015, and they made this announcement very early on, which I understand. I understand why they'd want that, but it didn't necessarily have anything to do with the reality of where anything was creatively."
So far the only confirmed returning cast member will be R2-D2. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed the rumors and is excited to be a long for the ride.
"It's a dream come true," Steeples explained, "and I hope I can live up to the expectations of the thousands of R2-D2 Builders around the world, let alone the millions of Star Wars fans."
Though Anthony Daniels' C-3P0 has yet to confirmed, Dr. Who actor Matt Smith is already rumored to be in talks for a role in the upcoming film.
According to a source allegedly close to the operation, Bleeding Cool reports: "We don't know if that means he had an audition, a screen test or just a chat with J.J. Abrams..."
